Job summary

Orion is seeking an experienced Boat Captain to support our field construction operations on marine and heavy civil projects. You will safely operate and navigate company vessels, transport crews and equipment, and coordinate with project teams in waterfront environments.

This role works closely with field leadership on projects involving ports, terminals, docks, bridges, and marine infrastructure. The emphasis is on safety, teamwork, and delivering results in challenging waterfront conditions.

Qualifications

• Three years of Boat Captain experience required.
• Master Boat Captain license and Master Tow endorsement.
• Familiar with inland waterways rules and navigation.
• Proficient in operating radio equipment for Coast Guard and ships.

Responsibilities

• Operate the tugboat and barge safely while in transit.
• Maneuver, position, and command vessels as required by the field operation.
• Use hand signals to communicate with barge deck personnel.
• Secure tugboat to barges using ropes and wires for towing.
• Follow the Rules of the Road on inland waterways.
• Communicate via radio with Coast Guard, ships and tugs.
• Perform daily safety inspections of the tugboat and related systems.
• Carry out minor maintenance on boat engines and equipment.
• Collaborate with foremen and craftsmen to complete projects safely.
• Participate in Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives.
