Job summary

Orion is seeking a Deckhand to support the safe operation of the vessel with general deck duties, lines handling, rigging, and routine housekeeping. The role includes rounds, light checks, and aiding the crew to maintain safety and compliance at sea.

Prior marine vessel experience is preferred but not required. You must communicate well, follow supervision, and complete required safety training. Expect 12-hour shifts with 2 weeks on/1 week off.

Qualifications

• Prior marine vessel experience is preferred but not required.
• Must communicate effectively and work well with other crew members.
• Be able to understand and follow specific directions from supervision.
• Be able to submit to and successfully complete any safety training required by the client.
• Able to work with close supervision and repeat tasks of short duration per procedures.
• Able to work within standards of accuracy as dictated by the customer.
• Able to abide by safety rules and regulations.
• Able to work 12-hour shifts with 2 weeks on and 1 week off.

Responsibilities

• Performs general deck duties required for safe, efficient operation of the vessel.
• Handles lines to moor vessels or rig towing lines.
• Rigs cables for lifting with cranes or anchor barges.
• Checks engine fluid levels, belts and alarms before starting equipment; checks for leaks during rounds.
• Loads and unloads materials from vessels/barges and docks/trucks.
• Maintains and cleans equipment, vessels, and compartments.
• Cleans engine room and associated spaces; maintains bilges and storage areas.
• Maintains deck appearance and safety; keeps area clear of hazards.
• Participates in safety and environmental initiatives and compliance programs.
