Job Description

Summary

Under moderate supervision and working from written and/or verbal instructions, including engineering drawings and test procedures, the technician will position, build, test, repair, and modify production mechanical and electronic components and instruments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Devise, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical/electromechanical and electronic components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment, machinery, power equipment, servosystems, machine tools, and measuring instruments. May be required to install, troubleshoot, diagnose causes, and/or repair products, instruments, or equipment, or perform routine or preventive maintenance.
  2. Coordinate and participate in the final assembly of units or systems, connecting valves, pumps, hydraulic, mechanical or electrical controls, cabling, tubing, power sources, and instruments. May assemble standard components and subassemblies.
  3. Activate controls to apply electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or mechanical power.
  4. Review project instructions and drawings to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, and technical problems, including potential solutions such as part redesign, material substitution, or reorganization of parts or subassemblies.
  5. Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to evaluate performance and reliability, or to obtain data for development, standardization, quality control, and contractual requirements.
  6. Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives, and make adjustments through modification, rebuild, or calibration to meet specifications.
  7. Record test procedures, results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for product or test method improvements.

Education and/or Experience

Requires a high school diploma and some vocational or technical training, with a minimum of 2-5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
