Job summary

Saab in West Lafayette, IN is seeking a Technical Writer to join our team manufacturing the rear section of the T-7A Redhawk trainer aircraft for the United States Air Force. The role serves as the local SME for technical writing and provides guidance for inspectors across shifts, while reporting performance metrics to leadership.

You will develop best practices for technical writing, generate NCRs, inspection/FAI plans, MRBs, and ensure compliance with ISO9001/AS9100/IATF16949 standards.

Qualifications

• AS Degree in Quality, Technical Writing, or related STEM discipline OR 3 years’ related experience in a manufacturing quality role required.
• Previous technical writing experience in manufacturing or quality operation is required.
• Ability to work with and articulate technical product/process requirements.
• Interpret and revise relevant documentation/work instructions for consistency and efficient repetition.
• Effective and concise written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrates a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• Self-driven and able to deliver high-quality results across a global team.
• Able to work extended hours when needed.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the local SME for technical writing and provide guidance/training for inspectors across multiple shifts.
• Report on writing performance and turnaround time to leadership.
• Identify common/repeated quality issues and establish corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Develop best practices for technical writing and maintain/update them as needed.
• Generate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs), Inspection Plans/Control Plans, FAIs, and MRB dispositions.
• Develop strong working knowledge of customer/industry quality requirements.
• Facilitate controls/solutions to provide high-quality products within schedule.
• Be primary contact in non-conformance investigations and material assessments.
• Contribute to a people-first culture aligned with Saab values.
