Job summary

voestalpine Railway Systems Nortrak is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer in Birmingham, AL to own and improve manufacturing processes, tooling, and layouts. You will work with production, quality, and engineering to drive continuous improvement and ensure product quality.

The role emphasizes process design, validation, documentation, and cost-reduction initiatives, leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and cross-functional teamwork to enhance uptime and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing or process engineering (varies by level)
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes - machining, assembly, injection molding, and similar
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement tools
• Proficiency with CAD software and/or ERP/MRP systems
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and hold quality
• Support new product introduction through process validation, documentation, and quality planning
• Create and maintain SOPs and work instructions, and investigate quality issues using structured problem-solving
• Analyze production data to find bottlenecks and drive corrective action on equipment uptime and reliability
• Lead continuous improvement work using Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies
• Identify and implement cost-reduction initiatives through process improvement and waste elimination
• Partner with Quality, Supply Chain, Maintenance, and R&D teams on cross-functional projects
