Job summary

UniFirst seeks a reliable Maintenance Supervisor to lead the maintenance team, ensure equipment runs smoothly, and drive process improvements across facilities. You will supervise technicians, manage preventive maintenance programs, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.

The role requires hands-on expertise in electrical, mechanical, and PLC systems, with a track record in budgeting, scheduling, and vendor management.

Qualifications

  • High school or GED preferred.
  • Two-year technical degree preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
  • Must pass UniFirst’s maintenance knowledge assessment to be eligible for employment.
  • Knowledgeable in maintenance equipment: wiring, electrical, mechanical, electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience repairing industrial processing equipment in a production environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience supervising maintenance personnel.
  • Maintenance administration experience including planning, scheduling, budgeting, negotiating, parts management, vendor management, maintenance management systems is required.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics is required.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance literature printed in English required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Hand & Power tools is required.
  • Lockout / Tagout experience is required.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and determine corrective actions.
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Perform basic welding to repair facilities and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLCs and control systems.
  • Perform and schedule all preventive maintenance on assets.
  • Follow blueprints, schematics, manuals and specs per a documented schedule.
  • Conduct boiler chemical and wastewater tests and adjust as needed.
  • Manage and assign all equipment maintenance and repairs beyond daily hours.
  • Fill shifts in the maintenance department as needed.
  • Oversee regulatory and environmental compliance in maintenance.
  • Ensure safety within the maintenance department.
  • Perform Confined Space and Lockout/Tagout procedures as required.
  • Monitor technician training status and schedule trainings.
  • Utilize a CMMS for maintenance tracking.
  • Collaborate with Production Manager on budget for building, equipment, capex, parts/labor.
  • Train and develop maintenance staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
