Job summary

UniFirst seeks a reliable Maintenance Supervisor to ensure facility equipment runs efficiently and to identify process improvements. The role includes managing maintenance staff, overseeing preventive maintenance, and coordinating with production to manage budgets.

The team operates Monday–Friday with occasional night/weekend overtime and on‑the‑job training. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in repair within a production setting, 2+ years in supervision, and strong knowledge of blueprints, PLCs,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Two-year technical degree preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.
  • Must pass UniFirst’s maintenance knowledge assessment.
  • Knowledgeable in maintenance equipment (wiring, mechanicals, plumbing).
  • Minimum 3 years repair experience in production environment.
  • Minimum 2 years supervising maintenance personnel preferred.
  • Maintenance administration experience required (planning, scheduling, budgeting, parts).
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to read maintenance literature in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with hand & power tools.
  • Lockout/Tagout experience required.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems and determine corrective action using blueprints and manuals.
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Perform basic welding to repair facilities and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLCs and control systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on facility and production assets.
  • Follow blueprints, schematics, manuals and specs on a documented schedule.
  • Test boiler chemical and wastewater pre-treatment systems and adjust chemicals as required.
  • Manage and assign all equipment maintenance and oversee repairs after hours.
  • Assume responsibility for all shifts in the maintenance department.
  • Oversee regulatory and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Ensure safety within the maintenance department.
  • Perform Confined Space and Lockout/Tagout procedures where appropriate.
  • Monitor training status of technicians and provide time for required training.
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Partner with Production Manager to develop budgets for building, equipment, capex and parts/labor.
  • Train and develop maintenance partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.
