Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Wichita is seeking a maintenance team member to keep our plant running smoothly and safely. You will work on pumps, motors, conveyors, and compressors, troubleshoot issues, and perform preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.

You’ll follow safety protocols, use lockout/tagout, and collaborate with production and other departments to improve efficiency. The role also offers opportunities for training, advancement, and tuition assistance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1+ years in industrial mechanical maintenance or 4 years in a similar environment.
• Technical/ vocational diploma or associate degree preferred.
• Ability to function effectively in a team and interact with all levels including contractors.
• Ability to operate forklifts, genie lifts or scissor lifts.

Responsibilities

• Keep the Plant Running Smoothly: Maintain key machinery and systems like pumps, motors, conveyors, and compressors; perform regular checks and fix breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Maintain a Clean & Safe Facility: Oversee HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and general upkeep; handle painting, cleaning, and grounds maintenance.
• Ensure Safety & Compliance: Follow safety protocols and regulations; conduct safety checks; respond to emergencies to keep everyone safe.
• Collaborate and Learn: Work with maintenance and production teams to solve problems and improve performance; participate in training.
• Tackle Projects & New Installations: Help install new equipment and lead efficiency and safety projects.
• Support the Team: Organize tools, parts, and supplies; assist with product transport as needed.
