Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to support production lines with preventive maintenance and repair work. The role emphasizes GMP and safety compliance while maintaining equipment performance on the plant floor.

The technician will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair machinery, working both independently and in teams, with opportunities for growth and potential relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1+ years in industrial maintenance or 4 years in a similar environment.
• Vocational or technical diploma/associate degree preferred.
• Ability to function effectively in a team and interact with all levels.
• Ability to operate forklifts, genie lifts or scissor lifts (PIT).
• Read and follow oral and written instructions and translate equipment manuals.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all daily PMs are completed.
• Keep production lines in good mechanical order.
• Assist other teams (Production, Quality) when needed.
• Follow GMPs and safety practices.
• Set up and visually inspect and test machinery and equipment.
• Listen for unusual sounds and diagnose machine problems with supervision.
• Dismantle defective machines and install parts.
• Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears and other parts.
• Repair and maintain the facility structure.

Education
