Job summary

The City of Washington is seeking a responsive Maintenance Worker capable of performing a variety of groundskeeping and public works tasks. You will cut grass, trim landscaping, and help maintain sidewalks and roadways in addition to operating light equipment.

Responsibilities include constructing and repairing concrete work, flagging traffic, cleaning public areas, and assisting with the care of trees and plant materials. Valid NC driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months or more related maintenance experience or training.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance tasks such as cutting grass with tractors, power riding and push mowers, removing leaves and debris, trimming shrubbery, and landscaping grounds.
• Construct or repair concrete and asphalt; repair potholes; shovel and rake asphalt; patch sidewalks and driveways; assist with forming and finishing concrete.
• Operate pickup, dump trucks, air hammers and other light to medium equipment; check oil and fluid levels and tires.
• Clean catch basins, sidewalks and streets; sweep and clean public areas.
• Maintain water and wastewater beds, lagoons, and clarifiers; assist with treating materials.
• Clean buildings, floors, windows and restrooms; stock restrooms with supplies.
• Assist with signing for construction and flagging traffic.
• Clean public grounds and pick up trash.
• Plant, water, fertilize and trim trees and plant materials; erect street signs.
