Job summary

The City of Washington is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Worker to perform unskilled and semiskilled tasks maintaining grounds, fields, buildings, and City parks. This role involves manual labor with hand tools and light equipment, routine horticulture, and basic repairs.

You will help prepare fields for sports and support city facilities through various trades. Essential duties include operating light equipment, setting up events, maintaining fields, and performing cleaning and maintenance

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• General knowledge of grounds and building maintenance.
• Ability to read, write and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operates chain saws, weed eaters and light equipment to prune shrubbery and trees.
• Checks equipment and performs troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Sets up facilities for events and City-sponsored functions.
• Prepares fields for games including mowing, painting lines, moving bleachers, and sod installation.
• Performs carpentry and electrical trades as needed for city facilities.
• Cleans floors, walls, windows, bathrooms and fixtures.
• Operates various mowers for grass cutting and grading on City property.
• Cleans and restocks restrooms and common areas.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
