Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance and Engineering Associate Technician to support our maintenance manager and engineering crews across plant facilities.

You will work on electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems, performing diagnostics, repairs, testing and preventive maintenance of equipment throughout the plant and utilities. You will read drawings, interpret schematics, and implement preventive solutions to improve production efficiency while ensuring safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, Industrial Maintenance Engineering or related field.
• 1+ years of related experience in industrial mechanical maintenance or food manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, safety rules, manuals and procedures.
• Professional, self-managed with strong written and verbal communication.
• Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Willingness to travel 15–25% and occasional overnight travel.
• Authorized to work in the U.S. (sponsorship available).

Responsibilities

• Diagnose equipment breakdowns and assist in selecting repairs; design preventive maintenance solutions.
• Schedule and coordinate maintenance, safety procedures, and materials to keep machines in optimum condition.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, piping sketches, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Identify mechanical problems, propose improvements to increase production efficiency and safety.
• Install heat, power, cogeneration, or trigeneration equipment to reduce energy use.
• Plan, assemble, and produce mechanical parts for industrial machinery and units.
• Communicate complex mechanical and electrical issues to Maintenance Manager and peers.
• Ensure daily PMs are completed and GMPs and safety rules followed.
• Provide technical support to other teams and maintain professional interactions across departments.
• Follow ISO 14001 procedures and maintain documentation for maintenance systems.
