Job description

Responsible for supervising and coordinating the activities of the maintenance department to ensure environmental center compliance in accordance with Federal, State, and Local ordinances, regulations, and building codes. Ensures the center is maintained in a sanitary, attractive, and orderly condition, in good repair, and free from hazards such as electrical, plumbing, ventilation, heating, and cooling system issues. Also responsible for providing quality laundry service.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One to two years of supervisory experience in a commercial establishment with knowledge of laundry, housekeeping, and maintenance procedures.
• Minimum of 2 years work experience in long-term care preferred. Life safety experience preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervises all Environmental Services personnel and daily work in assigned areas throughout the center, balancing budget and staffing, and resolving interdepartmental personnel issues. Maintains records of accounts payable, supplies received, and equipment maintenance.
• Executes the company’s preventative maintenance program, documenting all activities including replacement of parts, materials used, and fuel supply.
• Collaborates with healthcare workers and department leaders to ensure infection prevention and address other environmental requests.
• Maintains electrical and mechanical equipment, processes work order requests, establishes work priorities, and performs daily inspections to ensure cleanliness.
• Checks light bulbs, exit lights, water temperatures, circuit breakers, temperatures of walk-in coolers and freezers, and call-light systems, making adjustments as needed.
• Ensures proper functioning of power generation, time clocks, exhaust fans, water fountains, toilets, and drains; regularly checks the operation of scales and elevators.
• Conducts fire drills; checks fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, and lubricates fire doors.
• Identifies and recommends independent contractors for repairs or maintenance tasks that cannot be completed by the maintenance crew.
• Assists in developing and updating departmental procedures and policies.
• Supervises daily maintenance activities of assigned personnel.
• Prepares rooms for discharged or new residents.
• Maintains accurate maintenance records and completes projects in a timely manner.
