The North Carolina Department of Administration Facility Management Division is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and skilled Maintenance/Construction Technician I responsible for a variety of grounds maintenance tasks in the Landscaping Services section in the downtown Raleigh, Garner Road, and Blue Ridge Road complexes.

The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state’s population that have traditionally been underserved. · Basic to general knowledge of the principles and techniques of assigned trades.
· Ability to read, understand, and follow pesticide packaging labels, including safety requirements, in the use of products.
· Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
· Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment necessary for the work.
· Ability to diagnose plant health problems and determine remedial action.
· Considerable knowledge of the techniques involved in planting trees, shrubs, and flowers.
· Ability to read blueprints.
· Ability to operate the more common types of shop equipment.
· Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
· Physical strength sufficient to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.

Valid NC Driver's License. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver's License and acquire NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
Structural Pest Control License issued by the NC Department of Agriculture as a Public Operator or obtain within 160 days of hire.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience associated with a variety of mechanical or building trades; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
