Primary Purpose of Position: Do you have maintenance skills? North Carolina State Parks seeks self-motivated staff for our maintenance teams at various parks statewide. The Maintenance/Construction Technician I performs manual work to maintain park grounds, facilities, and equipment. Responsibilities include custodial duties, boundary line clearing, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing, prescribed burns, basic auto mechanics, and similar tasks. Disaster Recovery Job.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Performing semiskilled tasks in trades such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, facility maintenance, and auto mechanics.
- Operating large and small equipment and tools.
- Purchasing resources according to state policies.
- Providing record-keeping duties.
Position/Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work inside and outside in various environmental conditions.
- Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Typically work 7am - 4pm, Monday-Friday; must be able to work weekends, evenings, holidays as needed. Schedule may vary.
- Position is considered "Essential/Mandatory Staff" and requires work during adverse weather, emergencies, and special events.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical work with alertness in challenging environments, with or without accommodation.
Within 90 days of hire, must be able to obtain and maintain:
- A valid driver's license.
Within 12-24 months, must be able to obtain and maintain:
- Class A CDL.
- CPR Certification.
- Emergency Medical Responder Certification.
- Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications.
- Certified in S212 Chainsaw Operations for hazardous tree assessments and removal.
Qualified candidates must have or be able to demonstrate:
- Experience in trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, or auto mechanics.
- Experience in grounds maintenance/landscaping.
- Experience operating grounds maintenance equipment.
- Experience maintaining buildings, facilities, and equipment.
A skills assessment may be conducted during the interview.
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience in mechanical or building trades, is required.
Necessary Special Qualification: May require EPA certification as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician, as per federal regulations.
