Job summary

Topeka Public Schools is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician specializing in carpentry, painting and door hardware to maintain facilities and support the education program. The role requires a high school diploma, apprenticeship or equivalent, and several years of carpentry and painting experience.

Must have knowledge of OSHA regulations, be able to read blueprints, lift up to 100 pounds, work from heights, and follow instructions with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active Apprenticeship Carpentry Program or equivalent training.
• Minimum four years finish and rough carpentry experience.
• Experience in painting, plastering, tile, wood/metal work and related tasks.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and job site safety.
• Ability to read and apply technical information and blueprints.
• Valid Kansas driver’s license with good driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work at heights.

Responsibilities

• Respond to daily assignments from Maintenance Supervisor.
• Perform maintenance and repair tasks per standards and procedures.
• Install and repair structures, fixtures, windows, doors, and flooring.
• Remodel spaces to ensure safe, efficient utilization.
• Fabricate and assemble wood and related materials for projects.
• Finish wood surfaces and apply appropriate coatings.
• Erect scaffolding and move equipment safely.
• Maintain time sheets and inventories; attend necessary trainings.
