Job summary

Topeka Public Schools is seeking a skilled Maintenance Supervisor – Plumbing/HVAC substitute role focused on keeping district facilities fully functional. The position involves performing maintenance on plumbing, boilers, pumps, and HVAC equipment, with a strong emphasis on safety, accuracy, and reliability.

You will respond promptly to work requests, follow procedures for parts management, and participate in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• HVAC coursework from high school, trade, or technical school.
• Journeyman HVAC program with at least six years in a facilities setting; equivalent experience considered.
• EPA Refrigerant Certification required or to be obtained within 90 days of employment.
• Experience and training in plumbing, pumps, boiler repair, and related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Reports to the Maintenance Supervisor – Plumbing/HVAC to receive daily assignments.
• Respond to work requests in a timely and courteous manner.
• Perform maintenance and repair tasks per standards and procedures.
• Assist with general plumbing, component repair, pipe fitting, and related tasks.
• Replace and repair pumps, fans, capacitors, and leaking lines.
• Repair and maintain boilers and air conditioning equipment.
• Assist with preventative maintenance programs.
• Maintain parts and supplies records and inventories.
• Attend training sessions for professional development.
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain time sheets accurately.
• Assist other maintenance areas as assigned.
• Occasionally operate medium and heavy equipment; assist with snow removal when needed.
• Present a professional image in appearance and work ethic.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
