Job summary

UAMS in Arkansas is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to provide direct patient care under RN supervision, participate in nursing care planning, and document patient status in accordance with policy and Act. You will observe and report changes, administer medications, and support patient education.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited LPN program, current Arkansas LPN license and CPR certification; strong clinical knowledge and communication skills are essential for collaboration

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Contribute to assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care.
• Observe patients, chart, and report changes in condition.
• Administer medications and start IV fluids as prescribed.
• Measure and record vital signs.
• Assist patients with mobility and daily activities.
• Supervise nurses' aides and assistants.
• Collect specimens and perform routine lab tests.
• Maintain clean rooms and restock supplies.

Job description

• Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
• Contribute to assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care
• Adhere to the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Arkansas, UAMS policies, procedures, standards, and care guidelines
• Observe patients, chart, and report changes in patient conditions
• Provide basic patient care and treatment
• Administer prescribed medications and start intravenous fluids
• Measure and record vital signs
• Assist patients with standing, walking, bathing, dressing, and moving in bed
• Supervise nurses' aides and assistants
• Answer patient calls and determine how to assist
• Collect blood, urine, and sputum samples and perform routine laboratory tests
• Clean rooms and make beds
• Inventory and requisition supplies and instruments
• Record food and fluid intake and output
• Model UAMS Core Values in compliance with company guidelines
• Perform related responsibilities as required or assigned

Requirements

• High School, GED, or formal educational equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program
• Associates Degree in Nursing
• One (1) year of work experience in clinical nursing
• Current Arkansas Licensed Practical Nurse license
• Current CPR certification
• Strong clinical knowledge and technique
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology
• Strong patient advocacy and patient education skills
• Oral, written, and persuasive communication skills
• Ability to build collaborative relationships
