Position Overview

The Training Lead role is a hands-on frontline leader responsible for driving daily operational excellence across an in-market training team, facilitating training sessions, and leading on-site onboarding. This role is ideal for a highly dedicated, action-oriented individual who is ready to take on-the-ground leadership in Los Angeles. Los Angeles is Alto’s highest-volume training market, consistently hiring hundreds of drivers a month.

You will serve as the primary point of contact on behalf of the training team, manage staffing, respond to operational issues in real time, coaching and developing your training team, and ensuring an elevated candidate experience.

What you’ll do

Employee Coaching, Support and Development

  • Lead and develop a team of 15-17 trainers, driving overall performance, professional development, coaching, and career growth initiatives.
  • Oversee all employee relation matters for the in-market training team, serving as the primary point of contact for workplace concerns, policy enforcement, and conflict resolution.

Trainer Scheduling, Onboarding and Shift Coverage

  • Manage the end-to-end employee lifecycle for the in-market trainers, including hiring, onboarding, and offboarding.
  • Foster team culture to enhance employee engagement, and improve overall retention.
  • Manage trainer scheduling and shift assignments to balance operational needs within budgetary guidelines.
  • Balance coverage planning for peak volume spikes, callouts, and holiday schedules.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact to resolving all day-to-day scheduling escalations and operational issues.

Training Facility Operations and On-The-Ground Execution

  • Elevate the candidate and trainer experience across all on-the-ground operational processes in the training facility.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of Driving Assessments, including site setup, staffing allocation, candidate flow, and issue resolution.
  • Implement and maintain all training content, tools, and process changes across in-market operations.
  • Apply the Driving Assessment rubric with high consistency, having sound judgment calls on evaluation decisions and optimizing route selection for LA driving conditions.
  • Identify and elevate market-specific operational issues, recurring patterns, and process improvement opportunities to the Training Manager.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior people management experience with direct reports, having carried responsibility for performance conversations, employee relations, and team development before
  • Experience managing a team of ten or more, or clear evidence of leadership to step up into direct people management
  • Comfortable managing a high-volume, time-sensitive operation where daily execution is visible and consequential
  • Strong scheduling and resource-allocation judgment, including working within a fixed budget
  • Ability to hold a standard, executing consistently while advocating for change through the right channel
  • Clear communication across trainers, candidates, HR, and leadership
  • Comfort with data and reporting, using metrics to spot and report trends

Preferred

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience in driver training, transportation, logistics, or a comparable operational hiring environment
  • Familiarity with applicant tracking and assessment platforms (e.g., Fountain, Harver)
  • Experience building or improving process in a team that has grown quickly
