Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking an Operations Supervisor to lead a shift in our service center, ensuring safe, efficient freight handling and timely deliveries. You will supervise staff, coordinate loading/unloading, and work with management to meet daily objectives.

The role focuses on safety, process improvement, and cost-effective operations, with opportunities for career development and training in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Some college preferred.
• 2 years of experience with operations, preferably in the transportation industry
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Working knowledge of AS400 and Microsoft Office
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Bachelor’s degree preferred

Responsibilities

• Monitors and enforces safety for each employee daily and trains on safety processes.
• Plans and supervises safe and efficient freight loading/unloading during the shift.
• Teaches safe lifting techniques and ensures safe lifting practices.
• Maintains shift housekeeping for safety and productivity.
• Assigns and supervises pickups and deliveries to optimize staffing and equipment.
• Collaborates with Service Center management to meet daily/weekly/monthly goals.
• Offers improvements and guidance for shift/department operations.
• Provides feedback on ROI, efficiency metrics, and performance.
• Ensures regulatory compliance (OSHA, DOT) and trailers loaded safely.
• Operates OD tech systems to track shipment locations across terminals.
• Completes required freight movement forms and participates in shift meetings.
