Job summary

Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. is seeking an Operations Supervisor to lead a shift in a service center, ensuring safety, quality, efficiency, and cost targets are met while maintaining high service levels.

You will guide a team, coordinate loading/unloading, and collaborate with management to drive improvements. The role emphasizes safety training, adherence to regulations, and daily optimization of freight movement with OD’s proprietary systems.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
• 2 years of experience with operations, preferably in the transportation industry.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of AS400 and Microsoft Office.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and evaluate safety of each employee daily; train on safety processes as needed.
• Oversee safe and efficient planning, loading and unloading of freight during the shift.
• Teach and reinforce safe lifting techniques; ensure safe handling practices.
• Maintain shift housekeeping to support safety and productivity.
• Assign and supervise pickups and deliveries; optimize utilization of personnel and equipment.
• Collaborate with Service Center management to meet daily/weekly/monthly objectives.
• Provide instruction and ideas to improve operations within the shift and facility.
• Deliver constructive feedback on performance metrics such as ROI, MPH, and on-time shipments.
