Job summary

Norfolk Southern is hiring a Locomotive Electrician Trainee dedicated to the reliability of our locomotive fleet. This seniority-based union position requires availability for all shift types, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with extensive travel for training.

Training spans classroom and field instruction over about seven weeks, with lodging provided and travel reimbursed per union agreement. You will learn to wire, repair, rebuild, and inspect electrical equipment, read blueprints,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Eligible to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and physical.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather and perform heavy physical labor.
• Post-offer medical examination and drug test required.

Responsibilities

• Wire, maintain, repair, rebuild, inspect, and install electrical equipment in locomotives.
• Read electrical prints and test circuits with multimeters and amp clamps.
• Diagnose and repair malfunctions including charging, wheel slip, and sander circuits.
• Measure, cut, bend, and assemble connections to control panels and junction boxes.
• Operate and move locomotives within shop limits as required.
• Follow railroad safety rules and federal standards; wear PPE and stay safety-conscious.
