Norfolk Southern Corp. is seeking a Locomotive Electrician Trainee in the Chattanooga area to begin a hands-on training path for electrical maintenance on diesel-electric locomotives.

The role combines classroom instruction with field training in locomotive shops and yards, progressing toward journeyman-level responsibilities. Candidates must meet minimal education and physical requirements, be able to work diverse shifts, and be prepared for extensive travel for training as part of a

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 18 years of age or older.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Able to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and physical standards.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform heavy physical labor.
• Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including a drug test.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules, safety regulations, and federal standards.
• Wire, maintain, repair, rebuild, inspect, and install electrical equipment on locomotives.
• Measure, cut, thread, bend, and assemble connections to control panels and junction boxes.
• Read electrical prints and test circuits using diagnostic tools.
• Diagnose and repair electrical malfunctions including charging and transition issues.
• May operate locomotives within shop limits.
