Job summary

FedEx Freight in Rockford, IL is seeking qualified drivers to pick up and deliver freight between Service Centers and customers. You will perform pre-trip inspections, secure loads, and communicate with dispatch about delays or issues.

The role requires a Class A CDL with hazmat and double/triple endorsements; one year of recent driving experience or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development. Safety, compliance, and high service levels are essential.

Qualifications

• Must possess a class A CDL with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements.
• One year experience within the last three years or successful completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) per hiring standards.
• Must meet DOT/FMCSA regulatory requirements under 49 CFR part 391.
• Long combination vehicles qualification in AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD and UT.

Responsibilities

• Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles/triples where applicable, and/or straight trucks.
• Perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment.
• Hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies from tractors or trailers.
• Handle freight using equipment like forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck.
• Secure freight inside trailers with pallets, straps, and rope.
• Complete required documentation and reports; comply with DOT regulations.
• Communicate with customers to determine pick-up/delivery needs and solicit business.
• Provide internal and external customer service and support sales with leads.
