Job summary

K&L Gates is seeking a Market Development Manager to join our offices in Pittsburgh, New York, Washington DC, Charlotte, Raleigh, or Chicago. We seek self-starters who can work independently and with a team, delivering marketing and business development programs for the Litigation practice.

Responsibilities include leading BD initiatives, coordinating with practice leadership, and executing strategic plans across the firm’s global marketing network.

Qualifications

• Minimum of seven years of marketing, business development and/or sales experience in a professional services firm or closely related work environment.
• Experience within a large national or international firm preferred.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the global marketplace for professional services required.
• MBA or similar graduate-level degree preferred.
• Outstanding communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with individuals at all levels. Demonstrated ability to influence senior professionals and help them succeed in meeting their business development objectives.
• Ability to work independently. Willingness to work hands-on to achieve objectives in an environment with little leverage.
• Outstanding project management skills and the ability to juggle competing, shifting priorities.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Consistent ability to meet deadlines.
• Collaborative, team-oriented approach to work.

Responsibilities

• Co-develop and implement litigation business development plans with practice group leadership consistent with the firm’s strategic initiatives.
• Lead the Litigation area Directory Submissions including Chambers USA, Legal 500 and respective Law360 and AmLaw specials.
• Collaborate with lawyers to execute business development activities and plans, using resources across the firms’ marketing network.
• Work closely with the Pitch & Proposal team and lawyers to prepare RFP responses, write proposals, and create presentations for new business.
• Manage business development process and pipeline on behalf of the practice area.
• Plan seminars, conferences and other firm-sponsored events in collaboration with the events team; handle lead follow-up and opportunities for collaboration.
• Maintain knowledge of the global market for professional and legal services including trends and competitive landscape.
• Support lawyers’ business development efforts by identifying leads, sharing market intelligence, and representing the firm at events.
