Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Lineworker Training Instructor to deliver hands-on and classroom instruction for apprentices and journey-level lineworkers. You will develop skills, promote safety, and uphold professional standards across electric utility operations.

The role requires extensive field teaching, ability to work at heights, and collaboration with other instructors to keep curricula current while supporting storm restoration efforts and workforce development.

Qualifications

• 12 years of journey level experience in electrical transmission/distribution.
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional training preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA/NESC standards and safety practices.
• Ability to climb poles and operate bucket trucks; work at height.
• Experience training or mentoring field crews is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver training programs supporting field operations and safety.
• Instruct on safety practices, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
• Demonstrate proper tool use, climbing techniques, and rigging.
• Evaluate trainee progress with assessments and feedback.
• Maintain training records and update curriculum.
• Promote safety-first culture and professional standards.
• Coordinate scheduling with management and other instructors.
• Conduct classroom and hands-on instruction in electrical theory and system operations.
• Provide mentoring and individualized feedback.
• Stay informed on new tools and methods across service territory.
• Participate in safety initiatives and workforce development.
• Support storm restoration efforts as needed.
• Collaborate to ensure consistency across training programs.
• Facilitate field-based training including climbing and distribution system construction.
• Evaluate trainee performance through assessments.
