Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Lineworker Training Instructor to deliver hands‑on and classroom instruction for apprentices and journey level lineworkers. You will develop technical skills, safety awareness, and professional standards across the electric utility workforce.

Responsibilities include teaching safety practices, operating procedures, and field methods; evaluating trainee progress; and maintaining curricula. Travel up to 25% may be required within our service territory.

Qualifications

• 12 years of journey level technical/field experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems and safety practices.
• Ability to climb poles, operate bucket trucks, and work at heights.
• Strong communication and presentation skills; capable of engaging adult learners.
• Basic computer skills and training software familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality, hands‑on and classroom instruction to apprentices and journey level lineworkers.
• Teach industry safety practices, OSHA/NESC, and company policies.
• Demonstrate tool use, climbing techniques, and rigging in simulated and live environments.
• Evaluate trainee progress with practicals, tests, and field observations.
• Maintain training records, develop lesson plans, and update curricula.
• Promote safety culture and mentor employees for growth and success.
• Coordinate training sessions and support organizational goals with management.
• Provide field and classroom instruction on electrical theory and system operations.
