Job summary

FirstEnergy is seeking a Lineworker Training Instructor to deliver high‑quality, hands‑on and classroom-based instruction for apprentices and journey level lineworkers. You will develop technical skills, safety awareness, and professional standards across the electric utility workforce.

The role emphasizes safety, curriculum development, assessment, and collaboration with management to align training with evolving industry practices and fleet needs. Cleveland-area travel may be involved.

Qualifications

• 12 years of journey level technical/field experience.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training preferred.
• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution systems.
• Climb poles, operate bucket trucks, work at heights in various weather conditions.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Basic proficiency with computers and training software (PowerPoint, Office).
• Valid Class A CDL preferred.
• Knowledge of OSHA, NESC, and utility safety practices.
• Instructional training or adult-education qualifications are a plus.
• Experience training, coaching or leading field crews preferred.
• Role performed with limited general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Deliver training programs supporting field operations: construction, maintenance, troubleshooting and safety.
• Instruct on safety practices, regulatory requirements and company policies.
• Demonstrate and supervise tool use, climbing techniques, and rigging in simulated/live environments.
• Evaluate trainee progress via assessments, tests and observations.
• Maintain training records, develop lesson plans, update curriculum as standards evolve.
• Promote a safety-first culture and mentor learners.
• Schedule trainings and coordinate with instructors and management.
• Provide mentoring and individualized feedback to support growth.
• Stay informed on new tools and work methods across FirstEnergy’s territory.
