Job summary

Bird Electric Enterprises seeks a diligent Lineman Helper to assist in installing and repairing cables and wires for electrical power and distribution systems. You may erect poles and light or heavy‑duty transmission towers, following plans, specs and safety standards.

The role requires 7000 documented hours and a DOL‑approved lineman apprentice program, plus NCCER Core/Craft credentials. Expect physical work, climbing, and occasional travel with a crew in varied weather conditions.

Qualifications

• 7000 documented hours and proven DOL approved lineman apprentice program participation.
• Developing knowledge of the installation or repair of cables or wires used in electrical power or distribution systems and transmission towers and lines.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Use hand and power tools to measure, cut, assemble, install, test or repair cables or wires per plans and specs.
• Help install, maintain, inspect, test and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems.
• Open switches or attach grounding devices to remove electrical hazards and facilitate repairs.
• Climb poles or use bucket trucks to access equipment.
• Drive vehicles to job sites and travel for line inspections.
• Identify defective electrical components using diagrams and testing instruments.
• Dig holes and set poles with cranes and equipment.
• Splice or solder cables to overhead or street lines.
• Assemble and string conductors between poles and towers; manage tension.
• Coordinate work with other crafts and crews.
