Job summary

American Electric Power in Abilene, TX seeks a Line Mechanic C to advance from the Line Mechanic D level. You will install, maintain and inspect overhead and underground facilities, operate line trucks and associated equipment, and progress through C-100 to C-400 competencies.

You must have a high school diploma or GED, one year of distribution line experience (or equivalent school/internship), and a valid Class A CDL. Overtime, on-call work, and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum one year distribution electrical power line work experience or equivalent.
• Valid Class A CDL required.
• Must qualify through evaluation for the Line Mechanic A level as determined by the Company.
• Willingness to travel and live within 30 minutes of the service location.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities.
• Work on conductors, cables, transformers and related equipment under supervision.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cables; troubleshoot and energize equipment.
• Progress from direct to general supervision as skill increases; perform switching.
• Direct the work of assistants and complete apprentice documentation.
• Maintain safety and perform tagging procedures during switching of energized circuits.
