Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is hiring a Line Mechanic to perform installation, maintenance and inspection of transmission and distribution facilities. The role requires progression through C, B, and A classifications with responsibilities on energized lines up to 600 volts.

The position emphasizes building overhead transformer installations, tagging procedures, and supervising apprentice workers. Valid Class A CDL is required and overtime/onsite travel may occur.

Qualifications

• Line Mechanic-C experience: minimum one year distribution electrical power line work or equivalent.
• Line Mechanic-B experience: minimum two years as Line Mechanic-C or equivalent.
• Line Mechanic-A experience: completion of apprentice lineman training with B-200 certification and 4 years’ line work experience for external candidates.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable and troubleshoot URD cable.
• Build and erect equipment mountings and perform switching on energized lines.
