Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Line Mechanic in Indiana to install, maintain and inspect overhead and underground electrical facilities. The role advances from Line Mechanic C through B and A as skills and certifications are earned, including tests and live-line work up to 600 volts.

Applicants should have the required high school diploma or GED, one year of line work or equivalent, and a valid Class A CDL. Overtime, on-call duties, and travel may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Line Mechanic-C: 1 year distribution electrical power line work experience or equivalent.
• Line Mechanic-B: 2 years as Line Mechanic C or equivalent.
• Line Mechanic-A: apprentice lineman training with B-200 certification and 4 years line work experience.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers and structures.
• Test, de-energize and ground URD cable, splice and terminate URD cable, troubleshoot and energize equipment.
• Work on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under supervision per progression.

Education

Apprentice lineman training including B-200 certification

Line Mechanic-C Experience: 1 year distribution electrical power line work or equivalent

Line Mechanic-B Experience: 2 years as Line Mechanic C or equivalent
