Job summary

AEP Texas is seeking a Line Mechanic to install, maintain, and inspect overhead and underground electrical facilities within the service territory. You’ll operate line trucks and related equipment, building on prior Line Mechanic experience to progress through classifications as you gain skills.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, a valid Class A CDL, and at least one year of distribution electrical power line work or equivalent training.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, OR one year of related line experience defined as: successful completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures and other equipment.
• After C-100, or equivalent experience, work on energized conductors and equipment up to 260 volts under supervision.
• After C-200, or equivalent experience, work on energized conductors and equipment up to 600 volts under supervision.
• Build and erect equipment mountings and overhead transformer installations.
• Conduct proper tagging procedures while performing switching of energized circuits.
• Perform inspection and troubleshooting of lines.
• Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.
