Job summary

Valley View Casino & Hotel is seeking a Cook I to safely prepare food items according to recipes in a fast-paced kitchen. You will support standards, maintain guest satisfaction, and work with a team to produce consistent dishes.

Qualifications include six months of cook experience in a high-volume setting, knife skills, food safety knowledge, and the ability to pass drug screening and tribal gaming-licensing requirements. Flexible shifts and physical endurance are required.

Qualifications

• Six months of experience as a Cook in a high-volume restaurant environment.
• Ability to identify pan types and knife types.
• Proficiency with slicer, mixer, robo coupe, tongs, chef’s knife, bread knife, paring knife, steel, high heat spatula, turner, and whisk.
• Knowledge of sanitary practices.
• Working knowledge of weights, measures, and various cooking techniques.
• Possession of the basic tools to perform the job duties of a Cook.
• Reading and math skills for recipes and measurement.
• Ability to stand on a hard surface for entire shift.
• Ability to tolerate areas with extreme hot and cold temperatures.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic in all units of measure.
• MUST apply for, receive, and maintain a Gaming License from the Tribal Gaming Agency.
• MUST pass drug screening.
• MUST pass auditions or skill testing.

Responsibilities

• Support and uphold Valley View Casino’s Standards of Excellence.
• Maintain positive guest relations and resolve guest complaints.
• Prepare all food items according to standard recipes and menu.
• Demonstrate knowledge of various cooking techniques.
• Operate kitchen equipment including slicer, steamer, fryer, ovens, grill, mixer, kettle, and flat top.
• Maintain station cleanliness and replenish supplies.
• Rotate products using FIFO and label/date appropriately.
• Observe health codes and sanitation guidelines.
• Ensure safe operations and professional conduct.
