Job summary

Lampeter-Strasburg YMCA in Lancaster, PA is seeking part-time lifeguards to provide a safe, welcoming aquatic environment for members and guests.

You will monitor the pool, enforce rules, respond to emergencies, assist with opening/closing, and support aquatics programs with a flexible schedule. Compensation is $10.00-$12.00 per hour for 10-25 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required.
• PA State Police Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Certification required.
• Strong rescue skills, situational awareness, and attention to detail.
• Ability to remain calm, focused, and professional during emergency situations.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous surveillance of the pool area to ensure the safety of swimmers and participants.
• Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies using approved lifeguarding procedures.
• Enforce pool rules and safety guidelines in a professional, respectful, and consistent manner.
• Assist with questions to support a positive member experience.
• Facilitate smooth shift transitions through effective communication with fellow lifeguards and supervisors.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pool deck and aquatic environment.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, facility checks, and equipment organization.
• Monitor and record pool chemical readings while maintaining accurate documentation.
• Communicate lap lane patterns, activity schedules, and pool usage guidelines to members as needed.
• Participate in required trainings, meetings, and certification updates.

• Morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend opportunities
