Job summary

The Arthur J. Glatfelter YMCA in York, PA is seeking dependable Lifeguards to ensure a safe and welcoming aquatic environment for members and guests. If you enjoy staying active and helping the community, join a supportive team and develop leadership skills.

Key duties include constant pool surveillance, prompt emergency responses, enforcing rules, and providing excellent service. Training and certification updates are provided as part of this role.

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required or willingness to obtain certification prior to employment.
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications required.
• Strong swimming skills and ability to stay alert in a fast-paced aquatic setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to obtain PA State Police Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Certification.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area to help ensure the safety of all swimmers and participants.
• Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies using approved rescue and emergency response procedures.
• Enforce pool rules and safety guidelines in a professional, courteous, and consistent manner.
• Provide excellent customer service and assist members with questions or concerns.
• Support daily operations through opening and closing procedures and routine facility checks.
• Monitor pool conditions, perform basic water chemistry testing, and maintain accurate records.
• Communicate effectively with fellow lifeguards and supervisors to ensure smooth shift transitions.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and certification updates.
