Job summary

City Center YMCA in Lancaster, PA is looking for dependable lifeguards to supervise the pool area and support members and guests in our aquatics facility. You will help maintain a safe, welcoming environment and deliver exceptional service to swimmers of all ages.

The role is part-time and requires current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or willingness to obtain), CPR/AED and First Aid for Professional Rescuers, plus availability evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required or willingness to obtain prior to employment.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid for Professional Rescuers certifications.
• State Police Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Certification required.
• Evenings, weekends, holidays, and seasonal scheduling availability preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain active pool surveillance and monitor for safety concerns.
• Respond to emergencies following YMCA lifeguarding procedures.
• Enforce pool rules in a professional and respectful manner.
• Communicate clearly with members, guests, and staff in a fast-paced environment.
• Complete opening and closing duties and facility checks.
• Record chemical readings, incident reports, and safety inspections.
• Support smooth shift transitions through teamwork and communication.
• Attend required trainings and certification updates.

Help Create a Safe and Enjoyable Aquatic Experience

The City Center YMCA is seeking dependable, safety-focused Lifeguards to provide supervision and support for members and guests in our aquatics facility. In this role, you'll play a critical part in maintaining a safe, welcoming environment while delivering exceptional service to swimmers of all ages and abilities.

Essential Responsibilities

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area and remain alert to potential safety concerns at all times.
• Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations following YMCA and American Red Cross lifeguarding procedures.
• Enforce pool rules and safety guidelines in a professional, consistent, and respectful manner.
• Communicate clearly with members, guests, and staff in a fast-paced aquatic environment.
• Complete opening and closing duties, including facility checks and deck organization.
• Record required documentation, including chemical readings, incident reports, and safety inspections.
• Support smooth shift transitions through effective communication with fellow lifeguards and supervisors.
• Attend required trainings, meetings, and certification updates.

Qualifications

• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required or willingness to obtain prior to employment.
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid for Professional Rescuers certifications.
• Strong swimming skills, rescue readiness, and situational awareness.
• Ability to remain focused and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
• State Police Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Certification required.
• Availability for evenings, weekends, holidays, and seasonal scheduling needs preferred.

Compensation

$10.00 - $12.00 per hour
