Job summary

YMCA of NorthWest North Carolina is seeking a Lifeguard to provide vigilant surveillance, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies across our aquatics facilities. You will monitor water quality, assist members, and maintain readiness for rescues while promoting a positive, welcoming atmosphere.

Required certifications include YMCA Lifeguard (or equivalent) with CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen.

Qualifications

• Must hold active YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and Basic First Aid certifications required.
• Emergency Oxygen certification required; able to perform water safety rescues.
• Minimum age 16 for part-time, 18 for full-time; swimming ability essential.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous surveillance of pool zones and execute immediate rescues.
• Enforce pool rules with tact; log safety incidents and health checks.
• Perform pre-shift safety checks, chemical testing, and inspect rescue gear.
• Engage with members and guests, provide friendly safety explanations.
• Attend staff meetings and complete in-service training; stay mission-ready.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
