Job summary

The Lifeguard at YMCA of Northwest North Carolina provides active supervision at aquatic facilities, enforcing safety protocols and responding to emergencies. The role also monitors water quality, engages with members and program participants, and helps ensure consistent safety messaging across shifts.

Responsibilities include surveillance, rule enforcement, pre-shift checks, and ongoing training, with a focus on building positive relationships and delivering friendly, educational policy

Qualifications

• Advanced lifesaving skills and CPR/AED/First Aid certifications required.
• Strong decision-making and ability to enforce policies tactfully.
• Excellent customer service and communication with members and guests.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous surveillance of pool zones and perform emergency rescues using the Safe-in-Six framework.
• Enforce pool rules tactfully and maintain accurate logs for health and safety incidents.
• Conduct pre-shift safety checks, test water chemistry, and inspect rescue gear for readiness.
• Engage with members and guests in a friendly, educational manner to explain rules as needed.
• Attend mandatory trainings and maintain physical and mental readiness; perform other duties as assigned.
