Job summary

YMCA of NorthWest North Carolina is seeking a Lifeguard to maintain constant surveillance, enforce safety rules, and quickly respond to emergencies across our aquatic facilities. This role balances safety oversight with positive member engagement and water quality monitoring.

As a Lifeguard, you will build relationships with members by greeting them as they enter the pool, explaining rules in a friendly, educational way, and working with the Y team to ensure consistency across shifts.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Lifeguard (or equivalent) with cross‑over to YUSA Guard within 90 days.
• Active CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED and Basic First Aid certifications.
• Prior aquatics or customer service experience is preferred.
• Minimum age 16 for part-time; 18 for full-time roles.

Responsibilities

• Maintain continuous surveillance of pool zones and respond to emergencies.
• Enforce pool rules and maintain logs for health and safety incidents.
• Perform pre-shift checks, chemical testing, and inspect rescue equipment.
• Greet members, explain rules in a friendly, educational manner.
• Attend staff meetings and keep skills ready for action.
