Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure safe swimming conditions and a welcoming environment. Under the Aquatics Director, you will supervise the pool area, enforce safety rules, perform emergency responses, and maintain certifications.

Requirements include lifeguard certification, BLS/CPR, first aid, and ability to respond quickly to emergencies. Minimum age 16, with a strong emphasis on customer service and community engagement.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16.
• Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration.
• Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (If not YMCA MUST be crossed over in first 60 days).
• Ability to respond in a timely manner to safety and emergency situations.
• Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately.
• Keeps safety rules for pool and aquatic areas and applies them consistently.
• Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and health codes.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures necessary equipment is available.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes appropriate action.
• Maintains branch and association certifications (CPR, Lifeguard, First Aid, etc.).
• Assists as needed in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings; shows up 15 minutes before shift start time; wears proper uniform.
