Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure safe swimming conditions and a welcoming, respectful environment. You will monitor the pool and deck, enforce safety policies, and support the aquatic program.

Requirements include 16+ years of age, CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, and a current Lifeguard credential or equivalent; strong customer service and communication are essential. The role supports community access to programs and wellness initiatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16.
• CPR/AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen administration certifications (Basic life support or professional rescuer).
• Current YMCA Lifeguard certification or equivalent (If not YMCA must be crossed over in first 60 days).
• Ability to respond promptly to safety and emergency situations.
• Exemplify YMCA ideals and leadership qualities.
• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.

Responsibilities

• Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
• Responds immediately to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies and completes related reports.
• Applies safety rules and guidelines for pool and aquatic areas.
• Maintains accurate records as required by YMCA and health department codes.
• Performs equipment checks and ensures necessary equipment is available.
• Performs chemical testing when not guarding and takes appropriate action.
• Maintain required certifications in CPR, First Aid, and related procedures.
• Assists in all aspects of the YMCA and its community.
• Attends staff meetings and in-service training.
• Shows up 15 minutes prior to shift start time.
• Wears YMCA lifeguard uniform and gear.
