Job summary

UG2 in Massachusetts seeks a General Mechanic to support building operations, perform inspections, tests and preventative maintenance on HVAC, electrical, and BAS equipment. The role emphasizes reliability, safety, and proactive problem-solving to ensure continuous operation of systems.

The candidate should have a high school diploma with relevant experience, strong reading/writing abilities, basic math, and hands-on HVAC knowledge, with the ability to respond to service calls and coordinate

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 3–5 years related experience and/or training.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operations and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups.
• Ability to calculate figures and apply algebra/geometry concepts.
• Basic computer skills: internet searches, email, manuals.
• Hands-on HVAC experience and knowledge of HVAC codes/regulations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical work for installation and maintenance per diagrams, sketches, manuals and specs.
• Conduct preventative maintenance and repairs on air and water distribution equipment.
• Perform re-lamping indoors and outdoors.
• Operate and inspect Building Energy Management System and Fire Safety systems as required.
• Tour mechanical spaces, tenant areas, roofs, and building grounds daily/weekly.
• Respond to service calls for HVAC, plumbing, lighting, carpentry, and related tasks.
• Communicate status of mechanical systems to owner or supervisor.
• Stay updated on safety and code changes through training and seminars.
• Input data to client work order system; assemble materials lists for orders.
• Respond to emergencies, troubleshoot problems, and possibly use a radio.
• General housekeeping in mechanical/electrical rooms.
• Assist other trades with routine maintenance and repairs.
