Job summary

Essex County College is seeking a Library Support Specialist to provide customer service, technical support, and assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons. The role includes supporting library operations, circulation, and database maintenance while promoting a welcoming learning environment.

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree and familiarity with academic databases, along with strong MS Office skills and excellent organizational and interpersonal abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; strong familiarity with academic research databases.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel (including the Statistical Add-in), and Access.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech.

Responsibilities

• Provide circulation desk services and assist users in locating library resources.
• Assist users with library technologies, including computers, copier, scanners, and databases.
• Process new library materials and assist with cataloging and database maintenance.
• Support administration of reserve materials and interlibrary loan transactions.
• Assist with library orientations, instructional sessions, and workshops; promote library programs.
• Collect usage statistics and prepare routine reports.
• Maintain inventory records and prepare routine and ancillary reports.
• Enforce library policies and maintain confidentiality of student, faculty, and staff records.
