Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Online Education and Resources, or designee, the Library Support Specialist is responsible for providing customer service, technical support functions, assisting students, faculty, staff, and patrons with access to library resources, supporting library operation, library circulation, support the maintenance of library collections and databases, and ensuring an effective and welcoming learning environment. This position offers a competitive starting salary of $42,000 – $46,000along with a comprehensive college benefits package.

Supervisory Role
Oral and written instructions are received from the Assistant Dean of Online Education and Resources or designee. Library Support Specialist may supervise support staff, and student workers.
Duties & Responsibilities
- 1. Provide circulation desk services, assist students, faculty, staff, and community patrons in locating and accessing library resources.
- 2. Assist users with library technologies, including computers, copier, scanners, and online databases.
- 3. Process new library materials and assist with cataloging and assist in the maintenance and updating of library databases, catalogs, electronic records.
- 4. Support the administration of reserve materials and interlibrary loan transactions.
- 5. Assist with library orientations, instructional sessions, workshops, promoting library programs, resources, and provide basic reference and research assistance.
- 6. Collect and compile library usage statistics and prepare routine reports.
- 7. Maintain inventory records of library materials, equipment, and supplies, prepare routine, special, and ancillary reports as required.
- 8. Enforce library policies and procedures, maintain strict confidentiality of student, faculty, and staff records in accordance with applicable regulations.
- 9. Perform other related duties as required.

Additional Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Demonstrated familiarity with academic research databases.
- Substantial experience with Microsoft Office, and in particular, Word, Excel (including the Statistical Add-in) and Access.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver’s license, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in library science or related area.
- Two or more years of experience working in a public or academic library.
- Familiarity with information literacy and academic database research, preferably with Vale NJ.
- Experience working in higher education, preferably at a community college or a library in an urban environment.
