Job summary

City of Denton seeks a Library Assistant to provide desk coverage and assist customers with circulation, programs, information, and computer services. You will help patrons in person, by phone, and online, and support maker spaces, digital collections, and public computers.

The role requires a High School diploma or equivalent and two years in a library or related field, with the ability to handle cash payments and perform basic reference tasks.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; and, two years’ experience in library or related field.
• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide assistance and instruction to library customers in person, over the telephone, or by electronic mail.
• Assist users with reader’s advisory, basic reference searches, online catalog, MakerSpace, and digital collections.
• Register new library customers, update accounts, and check in/out materials.
• Collect payments for items and accept cash, check, or card payments.
• Organize shelves and maintain collections according to Dewey Decimal System.
• Assist with program outreach, publicity materials, and displays.
• Monitor returned materials and route for repair or other staff as needed.
• Collect in-house statistics and assist with supervision of volunteers.
