Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) serves six parishes (Eastand West Baton Rouge, Iberville, Pointe Coupee and West and EastFeliciana) in South Louisiana there are eight locations: 1) theMid-City Campus in Baton Rouge; 2) the Acadian Campus in BatonRouge; 3) The Frazier site in Baton Rouge; 4) the Ardendale site inBaton Rouge; 5) the Central Site 6) the Port Allen site 7) theJackson site and 8) the New Roads site. Provides circulation, basictechnical support and general information services to students,faculty, staff, and other library users through the dailyoperations of the Library, using the library's integrated onlinesystem and other resources. Provides information and technicalassistance in the Library including basic computer and printertroubleshooting and software assistance. Takes an active role intraining and supervising student workers in the department. Assistswith other library activities, including providing services atother sites, as necessary. This position includes regular eveningand/or morning hours, opening and closing the building, andextended hours during finals.
Key Responsibilities
40%
- Participate in the daily operation of the Library, whichincludes providing services directly to the public using anintegrated online catalog system, including check-ins, checkouts,and promoting good customer relations
- Provide customer assistance with public access technologyincluding but not limited to devices (computer, tablet, ereader,etc.) and peripheral device support including scanners, printers,and microform reader/printer/scanners, use of applicationsincluding Microsoft Office, the campus learning management system,the campus printing solution, and other common software apps
- Support patron use of the library’s online resources such asthe library website, LibGuides, and online databases.
- Communicate with patrons via email, phone, and chat; Assistpatrons in person and online with informational and directionalquestions; Help patrons locate resources in the library and oncampus
- Work scheduled evening or morning hours as assigned; Open andclose the library as assigned; Travel to other BRCC sites toprovide library resources and services as needed

- Participates in hiring, training, and supervising studentworkers
- Participate as part of the Library’s responsibilities tomonitor building activities, ensure user adherence to Librarypolicies; Report maintenance and safety issues appropriately
- Track patron questions and answers to ensure continuity ofservices across department and to contribute to data collection forannual reports.

- Report technical issues to the College’s Information Technology(IT) department as needed via the Help Desk ticket system andtroubleshoot technical issues in collaboration with the Librarystaff and the College’s IT department as needed.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s degree or higher and work experience in a libraryor educational setting, or other relevant customer service workexperience.
Experience
- One year of experience working in a library, educational, orcustomer service setting (or one year of combined total relevantwork experience in different environments).
Experience Substitution:
- Volunteer work or internships in a relevant field, ordemonstrated active involvement in student organizations maysubstitute for required work experience..
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated skills and experience using computers, saving andopening files, using cloud storage, printers, Microsoft Office andother technology applications.
- Willingness to be flexible and learn new processes and skillsin an evolving and dynamic work environment.
- Must be willing to switch shifts as necessary to meetoperational needs
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and writtenEnglish
- Physical ability to move books and book trucks and to lift/moveup to 40 lbs. Ability to bend, lift, and twist to reach and workwith material and equipment on shelves and on the floor.

Preferred Experience
- Library work experience in an academic setting
- Coursework or certificates in using computers, digitalliteracy, Microsoft Office, or Adobe Creative Cloud software
- Experience using the SIRSI Symphony integrated librarysystem/WorkFlows software
- Experience with Canvas LMS
- Experience or interest in graphic design
