The College Navigator position is an academic/holistic collegeadvising position that applies personalized support modelprinciples with the intention of improving student success. Thepersonalized support model is a concierge service – where theCollege Navigator provides a student holistic support and servicefrom intake until graduation/transfer/workforce. A CollegeNavigator supports a student according to personalized principlesby (but is not limited to) following best practices:
- getting to know advisees on a deeper level (knowing a student’sgoals, interests, strengths, and challenges);
- proactive/intrusive advising and the creation of individualstudent success plans;
- maintenance of detailed advising notes and studentrecords;
- outreach to specific populations;
- intentional referrals to other departments and services;
- regular communication and follow-up with student to monitorprogress and address success barriers; and continuous evaluation ofthe effectives of the advising process.

Key Responsibilities
40%
- Assist student by identifying the program that best meets theirgoals and interests, provide a thorough review of program/courserequirements, answers student questions, communicate at regularpoints throughout the student’s academic journey, guide courseselection and registration, gauge student progress, provideresources to overcome challenges, and outline possible options fortransfer and workforce placement.
- Use a high level of discretion and independent judgment,continuously evaluate the academic and financial plan throughoutthe student lifecycle, review student progress towards graduation,and make appropriate recommendations to ensure studentsuccess.
- Coach students to explore alternatives to overcome barriers topersistence or graduation. Train student to use studentself-service tools. Implement advising strategies that help studentreach their educational and career goals.
- Document all interactions in the appropriate institutionalsystems using Student Management system. Utilize appropriatesystems and student data to confirm and track progression,persistence, retention, and graduation information for assignedstudents.

- Analyze student data to identify triggers indicating a need forproactive outreach. Make appropriate resource referrals whennecessary and document through Student Management system.
- Engage students through a variety of communication channels.This may include video advising, student calls, and proactiveoutreach.

- Collaborate with other departments and functional areas todeliver an optimal student experience from inquiry through tograduation. Work with financial aid to confirm an accuratefinancial plan by establishing timeframes to complete theapplication process to be financially prepared to start and stay inschool.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of all academic,registration, programs, policies and procedures includinginstitutional policies and federal and state regulations. Identifyopportunities and solutions that improve current methods andactively participate in the improvement of a constantly evolvingorganization.
- Complies with applicable federal and state laws as well as BRCCpolicies.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in academic supportservice programs (e.g., career counseling, academic advising,admissions, and financial aid).
- A bachelor's degree will substitute for 5 years ofexperience
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced:
- Excellent communication and listening abilities: persuasive andnegotiation skills, strong professional writing, public speaking,interpersonal and public relations skills.
- Project management and planning capabilities.
- Ability to represent the organization in a professionalmanner.
- Ability to gather and collect data and build reports usinganalytics.
- Customer service skills combined with a strong work ethic and aself-motivated approach toward achieving consistent results.
Proficient:
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective workingrelationships with students, staff, faculty and the public.
- Ability to maintain confidential and highly sensitive studentinformation.
- Ability to multi-task and deliver work product under tightdeadlines.
- Ability to collaborate with other professionals on projects andtasks.
Preferred Education
Preferred Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in academic supportservice programs (e.g., career counseling, academic advising,admissions, and financial aid).

- Knowledge of Banner, learning management systems, academicprogram sequencing.
