Public Safety Response Coordinator

Under general supervision, the Public Safety ResponseCoordinator position performs a variety of complex functions, whichincludes, but not limited to entering and accessing real-timeinformation into the computer-aided dispatch (CAD) System,),operate & monitor closed-circuit television (CCTV) System atall BRCC Locations, acts as the point of contact with the generalpublic for emergency situations, accidents, complaints, etc.,receive and respond to requests from enforcement officers/agents.The incumbent is also required by the National Crime InformationCenter (NCIC) and the Louisiana State Police to obtain credentialsin accessing and adhering to Terminal Operator CertificationProgram Guidelines to meet the terminal operator certification andrecertification requirement within six months of employment.
Key Responsibilities
40% Response Coordination
- Inform Officers of complaints that need to be investigated andtransmit all information necessary to ensure safety of officers andthe BRCC Community.
- Receives and analyzes emergency and non-emergency calls forservice; prioritize the calls.
- Handles complex calls and responds to general public complaintsand inquiries.
- Receives and transmits messages over two-way radio equipment,telephone, computer equipment and teletype concerning crimes, andpolice emergencies.
- Maintains the location of officers and security guards on duty.Dispatches officers as necessary to investigate complaints. Alertthe nearest officer and relay the information.
- Coordinates with wreckers, ambulances, & other firstresponders to BRCC Locations as needed. Relays pertinentinformation in a factual and concise manner.
- Enters all call information into the CAD (Computer AidedDispatch) system.
30% Operate & Monitor CCTV (Closed-circuittelevision).
- Review, monitor, retrieve video footage daily at all BRCCLocations. Report outages, triage inoperable views, and burn videofootage as needed.
- Researches and analyzes discrepancies and burns video footageas needed.
- Ensures required authorization and documentation is obtainedbefore releasing video footage to the District Attorney (DA) and/orother Law Enforcement Agencies requesting video footage.
- Communicates with appropriate personnel and/or departmentsrelative to video footage reviewed & provides reports asneeded.
- Works with Supervisors to ensure all dates, time, and locationof incidents identified are secured in a timely manner. Providessupport for police officers and local law enforcement intimelines.
10% Maintenance
- Submit work orders and help desk tickets as needed. Completespreadsheet when Emergency Equipment is assessed at BRCCLocations.
10% Customer-Service Representative
- Work Customer-Service Area to assist with parking decals andBRCC IDs for students, employees, visitors, vendors, etc.
5% NCIC & Compliance
- Complies with federal, state, and local laws, regulations,college, and departmental policies. Maintains proper record keepingand daily logs of radio and teletype activities, update desk logduring communications.
- Operates computer terminals to obtain vehicle and criminalrecord information.
- Checks for stolen vehicles, stolen license plates, wantedpeople, and invalid drivers' licenses through State Police andN.C.I.C. computers.
- Maintains wrecker slips and towing information
5% Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s degree in criminal justice or any relatedfield.
Experience
- Two (2) years of relevant experience; or
- An associate’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related fieldin lieu of the required experience; or
- A high school diploma with four (4) years of relevantexperience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Advanced:
- Written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work well with others
- Interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive andconfidential information.
Proficient:
- Working knowledge of computer word processing, spreadsheet, anddatabase software applications.
- Organizational & time management skills
- Attention to detail, time management, and organization toensure accuracy and timeliness.
Preferred Experience
- 2 years' experience with Public Safety, Security, NCIC, LawEnforcement, Communications or a related field.
