Job summary

The New York Public Library in Charleston is seeking a Library Information Assistant to provide service to patrons of all ages. You will handle information queries, circulation tasks, and support outreach and programming.

Under supervision, you will offer reference and circulation, guide patrons in using digital resources, assist with programs for children, teens, and adults, and help maintain welcoming, accessible library services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, liberal arts preferred.
• Experience delivering information and reference services to diverse patrons.
• Ability to work as part of a team and manage multiple tasks.
• Strong written and spoken communication skills.
• Familiarity with library technologies and online resources.
• Capacity to assist with outreach and programming activities.

Responsibilities

• Provide circulation/reference service to patrons of all ages.
• Answer questions in person, by phone, and electronically.
• Promote library services through community outreach.
• Assist in planning and delivering programs for children, teens, and adults.
• Instruct on Internet use, computer applications, and library services.
• Manage fines/fees, reserves, and opening/closing procedures.
• Support facility operations in the Library Manager's absence.
• Perform related duties as required.
